One of my favorite things about summer is all the beautiful creatures that emerge! I love to see the butterflies flying around, hear the birds chirping, and watch the bees buzz around. I like to make my garden very creature-friendly, where bird feeders are a must and butterfly-attracting flowers are a need!

There are some ways that you can level-up your garden to where the critters just can’t stay away! (And I mean the pretty ones, not the pesky ones!!) It’s not hard to create a perfect environment for the birds and the bees to flock to. I’m here to tell you how to do it!

One way that you can get butterflies to flutter around is to pay attention to the plants that you buy. There are some specific flowers that attract butterflies, and usually the label will say. The same is true for bees! Next time you go plant shopping, check to see if they will bring wildlife.

To get those birds, a simple bird feeder is a fantastic idea! You can find hummingbird feeders, bird seed, and bird houses almost everywhere. And, if you want to DIY, string cheerios on your tree limbs! For a recycling route, you could make a bird feeder out of a plastic water bottle and bird seed. Also, just scattering leftovers around can lure them in quick!

A compost pile may not seem the most gorgeous thing to keep in your garden, but it actually provides for a myriad of species. In addition, a small pond, or even a bird bath is a great touch to your landscape; and it can attract frogs, dragonflies, birds, and newts!

One last way to create a wildlife-friendly yard is to just let Mother Nature do its thing! Many people want a perfect yard, with precisely cut lawns and structured flower beds. But there is something to be said for nature just being nature– it’s an uncommon beauty in a person’s landscape. And you just might find that those beautiful creatures like it like that, too!
