Now that summer has come, everyone is ready to lay outside! Pool days, tanning days, you name it! The beautiful sunshine keeps everyone outdoors. But, while those UV rays may be pulling us out for hours at a time, we have to keep our skin in mind!
Whether your job is working outdoors or you just want to soak up sunny days, sunscreen should be a part of your daily routine. Living in Louisiana, it is rarely cool and dark outside on a summer day! One reason sun protection is so important is that it builds up your skin barrier. Skin irritation can occur even after the shortest amount of time in the sun– those sun rays will get to you! So wearin sunscreen helps protect that outer layer of skin.
The no-brainer reason that most people think of is skin cancer. Yes, wearing sunblock with a high SPF can significantly reduce the risk of skin cancer in an individual. Because it protects that outer layer of skin from irritation and burns, your chances of cancer of the skin goes way down.
Another reason is aging! You may look good for a few months, skin nice and toned from the sunshine, but spending too much time in the sun can actually cause you to age faster! You’ll start to see more wrinkles, brown spots, and some pigmentation. Who would want to cause all that?
Of course, as a sun-lover myself, I am not telling you to shut yourself away from those beautiful, blue days. Just take proper precaution so that you may be as healthy as you can! SPF of at least 15, with faithful reapplication is key!
