The Anniversary of COVID-19

The Anniversary of COVID-19

How has it been 4 years already?

March is the 4-year anniversary of when our world shut down. I went home from school on March 13th, 2020 thinking that I’d be back after a month’s worth of quarantine. At the time, that’s all everyone believed. This would blow over– it was just like flu-season.

    That’s not what happened.

I think back to the days that followed and how much uncertainty hung in the air. It’s crazy that something as ordinary as going to the grocery store would become an act of congress! Studies show that anxiety and depression numbers were rampant during the quarantine. Whether it was paranoia over germs or longing for real-life again one can argue with. Loss was so great, too: in 2020 alone, there were about 1.8 million deaths.

If the COVID battle taught us anything, it’s to not take life for granted. Instead of seeing the “have-tos” let’s call it the “get-tos”! Hug your friends and family, enjoy breathing without a mask between you and the air, walk into the bustling grocery store with a smile on your face! And one day, tell your grandkids the story of how it happened, and we got through it all.
